Stirlingshire’s Sea King helicopter holiday home has been shortlisted for a top Innovation in Tourism award from Visit Scotland.

Helicopter Glamping at Mains Farm Wigwams, Thornhill has been named as an outstanding candidate by the organisers of the Thistle Awards – Scotland’s premier awards for the tourist industry.

Owner Louise Cross said: “We’re very proud to be shortlisted as finalists and absolutely delighted to be recognised as an outstanding candidate. We’ve created a unique experience for visitors to Scotland, which has been a huge hit with tourists from all over the world.  Landing this award would be a fantastic reward for all our hard work restoring the helicopter to her former glory and transforming her interior into something very special.”

The project has boosted Stirling’s rural economy, as Louise explained: “To keep up with customer demand we’ve now employed a site manager to help us turn the campsite into a year-round destination. The surge in visitor numbers has also had a positive effect for local restaurants, shops and attractions, as holidaymakers flock to the site.”

The Central, Fife & Tayside regional winners will be revealed at a black-tie awards dinner at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh on 15 November. Helicopter Glamping is up against Stirling’s Engine Shed and OOVIRT Virtual tours in Dundee.
