Scene Stirling partners Artlink Central and Macrobert have joined forces with NHS Forth Valley to bring a dementia inclusive theatre show to the region.

In the Light of Day is a collaborative performance specifically for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

The show has toured around the area this week, including performances at Clackmannanshire Community Healthcare Centre and William Simpson Care Home in Plean.

The tour will conclude with public performances at the Macrobert today (Friday 8^th) and tomorrow (9^th July).

Manager of Scene Stirling Kevin Harrison said: “In the Light of Day is devised and directed by Magdalena Schamberger, a sector-leading artist with a wealth of expertise in the field of arts and dementia.

“It tells a simple and universal story of love, longing and the desire for connection.

“The focus is on hands, gloves, gestures and household chores. Using live music, movement and very few words, to evoke emotional memory and engagement.

“It’s funny, entertaining and beautiful and the audience is invited to simply watch or to participate.”

Macrobert Director Julie Ellen added: “The production reimagines beauty and tenderness in an age of physical distancing and PPE.

“The performance provides meaningful creative engagement and members of the audience are gently encouraged to engage with the performers.

“Inspiring moments of enjoyment, stimulation, communication and social connection.”

Reviews of the show’s Edinburgh tour have been overwhelmingly positive.

Audience member Willy Gilder, a person living with dementia, said: “In the Light of Day is a little piece of theatre that packs a big punch. It is designed to tour round care homes and uses mime, music, clowning and dance to tell an everyday story of love, lost gloves and washing lines. Well done Magdalena Schamberger for directing this little gem.”
